News Links
[In an effort to provide the latest Free/Libre Open Source Software information and developments to the public, we gladly provide links to other publications in our genre. Promoting our competition? You could see it that way, but we see it as a reflection of our commitment and duty to get the word out about FLOSS.]

Advogato is the free software developer's advocate. Their goal is to be a resource for free software developers around the world, and a research testbed for group trust metrics and other social networking technologies.

Desktop Linux provides news and features in the GNU/Linux world.

DistroWatch: A virtual wealth of information about new releases in the GNU/Linux world. With our first cup of coffee, we check this site and LXer Linux News (see below) first thing after the computer boots and consult these sites several times a day.

Free Software Magazine has the primary aims of promoting free software and its use; and educating the global community in the use of free software.

LinuxPlanet opens up "a new window of new possibilities."

LXer Linux News: This is where "the world is talking about GNU/Linux and Free/Open Source Software," and where up-to-the-second breaking GNU/Linux news can be found (and, again, where we go first thing in the morning to find out what's going on and check constantly throughout the day).

Mad Penguin: A popular destination for Linux reviews, news and advice, "soaring past much larger corporations with huge advertising and marketing budgets."

News Forge is "the online newspaper for Linux and Open Source," according to their banner.

Tectonic is a South African publication that tracks the shifts in technology.

Blogs

General Free Software/Open Source Software

*Nixed Blog by Thomas Holbrook II details "Unix and the Overlooked Pop Culture" and where the two intersect (hint: They merge a lot more often than you might think). It's an insightful read by anyone's standard.

Hans Bezemer has a lot to say about FOSS computing -- much of it pretty insightful -- in his blog "The Beez' Speaks."

While Penny Leach of New Zealand describes herself as "just this girl, who lives in Wellington, works on open source web stuff and drinks too much," she also puts out a well-written blog about FOSS and the women who work with it, among other topics.

A man and his penguin: Christopher Lees outlines the adventures of running alternative operating systems (read GNU/Linux) on Macintosh PowerPC hardware, while releasing his own distro for the platform called Copland.

A self-described "FOSS zealot," Brenda Wallace has got gadgets and gizmos aplenty, whozits and whatzits galore. She covers a wide range of topics, most of which revolve around FOSS, and she has some pretty nifty photos, too.

Written from the hacker-in-training, geek-wannabe point of view, Larry the Free Software Guy presents a perspective on FOSS that comes from a digitally deprived journalist (it's the blogging nom-de-plume of OSR editor/publisher Larry Cafiero).

FOSDEM meeting

Stephane Corlosquet blogs about the recent FOSDEM meeting in Brussels.

Operating System Migration

Not Windoze outlines how the Microsoft monopoly works, and how you can avoid or escape it. It is written by Cameron Spitzer.

Internet issues

Spammers vs. Free Speech, the social and political aspects of the junk email (email spam) crisis, is written by Cameron Spitzer.
