Java: Free at last

"We are now, with regard to the open sourcing of Java, done," Sun Microsystems software head Rich Green proclaimed is his opening keynote at JavaOne, the annual Java developers' conference running this week in San Francisco. Sun released a fully buildable Java Development Kit (JDK) for Java SE (Standard Edition) to the OpenJDK community on Tuesday, fulfilling the pledge it made at last year's JavaOne conference to free the source code and licensing of its Java development platform.
